New HEARTbeats videos

Posted on: 10-11-2011 Posted in: Blog, HEARTbeats

There’s nothing quite like working with good friends and when I have the chance to combine that with doing charitable work, it makes a good thing great! Several months ago, I had the pleasure of recording a very special arrangement by Randy Kerber of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that featured Christine Brewer and me. And if that weren’t enough, my good friend John Williams was gracious enough to conduct the orchestra and work with Randy on some last-minute fine tuning to the score. Fortunately, we had a film crew on hand to document the recording session and the video turned out great!

You can watch the videoright from the HEARTbeats homepage, it’s the first slide so all you need to do is click it and the video will start. If you think everyone sounds great in this, just wait until you hear the final mix on the benefit album. Here’s a shot of all four of us in the booth during one of the breaks.

In addition to the session video, we also have a video documenting our time in Nepal from Last December working with the local children. That’s me in the background playing Bach!

About the Author

Lynn Harrell
Welcome to my blog. I am a 67 year old solo cellist who has been touring the world for the last 40 years playing almost everywhere of note in the classical music scene alongside many of the greatest musicians. Over all these years, I have accumulated many stories, opinions, and insights, and gifts of the spirit as well as objects. It has been and still is incredibly inspiring work and even though I consider myself “techno-challenged” I wanted to have an outlet to share everything.

Your website is a delight and reflects the very spiritual essence you exude. It was a pleasure to meet you at the CD signing at the Madison Symphony recently. I am pleased that you followed your heart to adopt Judaism as your religion. Many blessings to you.

Mr. Harrell, thank you so much for the beautiful performance of Bach Prelude #6 and the cute and “show-off” cello piece by John Williams yesterday. I also thank you for your generosity to autograph my daughter’s Bach book and my CD! My daughter is so excited to have met you and such inspiration can mean far more than practicing techniques. Also I was very glad to learn what you do through HEARTbeats. I really hope children (and adults) all over the world get to experience pure beauty and power of music!

Thanks for breaking in my new cello for me. It’s supposed to arrive here 11/18.

I’m afraid its new owner will be a letdown for it after having you play it.

    But I’ll do my best.
